Musculoskeletal Education Intensive – The Spine
Flinders University, in association with WorkCoverSA, is conducting a 2 day intensive on the weekend 22 – 23 October 2011.
The intensive will cover the Examination, Assessment and Management of the spine. The focus of the program is to link into and extend the attendees’ practice. There are no pre-requisites for the program, but the material will build on attendees’ knowledge of the anatomy, diagnosis, investigations and the rehabilitation of patients presenting with common occupational injuries and conditions.
The program will include components on:
· case discussions of common presentations, ‘hands on’ examination skills
· radiology - which and when to use different modalities
· unusual presentations
· management alternatives with presentations and discussions about:
* surgery
* medication
* psychology
* physiotherapy including manipulation
* functional capabilities and return to work
* massage and complementary therapies
· chronic pain management
Presenters will include: Dr John Bastian, Dr John Cross, Dr Peter Jezukaitis, Dr Dilip Kapur, Dr Patricia Montanaro, Dr Santosh Poonnoose, Dr Matt Sampson, Dr Ian Steven along with a number of other health practitioners.
Attendance is open to all health providers and will be limited to 60 attendees due to its hands on nature. It is assumed that attendees will already have a reasonable level of understanding of musculoskeletal conditions.
Grants of $500 are available, through the support of WorkCoverSA, for 24 rural or remote professionals to attend the workshop. You will be eligible for a grant if your normal place of work is located more than 120 km from Adelaide. Please apply to donald.bramwell@flinders.edu.au.
Attendees of this event will be eligible to claim CPD points.The workshop can be attended as a stand alone program, but it also acts as the face-to-face intensive of the Spine topic in the Flinders University Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine.
The cost for the intensive will be $700.00 (inclusive of GST) per person and will include lunch, morning and afternoon tea as well as course materials and copies of presentations. For attendees who are enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine, the workshop is included in their course fee.
